Classy, as always, Zac Posen showed a FW2013 collection that was elegant while remaining youthful at the same time. With looks that oozed high quality, and velvet embellishments, well cut silhouettes and luxurious fabrics made garments appear rich.  Posen stayed with a warm and diverse color palette of burnt orange, olive, violet, navy, burgundy, and mariogold, which was reminiscent of autumn leaves, and he kept cooler months in mind in his more casual ensembles by layering and using thick colored tights and practical layering.

The styling for the collection was simple and sophisticated with slicked back buns and bold burgundy lips. It shouldn’t come as much surprise that Coco ended the show and looked beautiful doing so. Overall, the collection was glamorous and classic Zac Posen.

derek-lam13

(Derek Lam, FW2013)

The mix of texture that was evident in almost all of the pieces was perhaps the most striking element of Derek Lam’s FW2013 collection. Safe yet sexy, different pieces of suede and leather were blocked off into different sections to create interesting and body conscious geometric designs. The color palette consisted of mostly neutrals such as tans, black, white and navy but popped with small traces of deep burgundy details. This attention to color as well as materials made Lam’s FW2013 an overall success.

(The Row, FW2013)

It gets me every time how well The Row is able to do minimalism and still be so interesting and show stoping. Seriously, so simple, so chic, so right. The looks that they produce are just as mesmerizing as any of the highly embellished or intricately cut designs that other brands are producing. Needles to say, these girls are on a roll. The collection was right on trend with black & white dominating the looks along with pantone’s color of the year – emerald. Fuzzy shoes and dark polish were stand out points of the collection and helped add to the cohesion.

(Carolina Herrera, FW2013)

Every big model in the industry walked Carolina Herrera’s FW2013 show, from Cara Delvigne, Karlie Kloss, Lindsay Wixson and more, Herrera’s FW show was obviously the place to be. Of  course, there were fall staples in the collection such as fur accents, gloves, etc but a color striking color palette that contained bronze, beige, rich plums and refreshing shades of emerald brought a fresh perspective to fall fashion that can sometimes, well, fall flat. Large geometrics as well as floral prints adorned a number of the pieces and added to the cohesion and the subtle New York elegance that Herrera is known for.

thom-browne28

(Thom Browne, FW2013)

With an obvious queen of hearts, Alice & Wonderland, inspiration, Thom Browne showed a FW 2013 collection that allows wearers as well as onlookers to be transported to a world of fantasy and imagination. Playing with larger shapes, a trend that has undoubtedly risen in the fashion industry over the past few years, Browne displayed garments that were oversized, boxy and particularly wide at the shoulders. With such a strong vision being conveyed in the clothing it came as no surprise that careful attention was paid to the styling as well. With roses as props, large over-the-top messy buns, pale faces with bright cherry lips and blush pink lips, Browne’s styling added to the overall theme of the collection. Wearability and commerciality are obvious issues for Thome Browne FW2013, but hey at least its fucking awesome to look at.  Also, important to note, Helen Bonhnam Carter could definitely rock any of these looks and I wouldn’t be surprised if she does.

betsey-johnson05

(Betsey Johnson, FW2013)

Betsey Johnson is one of those designers who is always shocking people in a good way. With crazy colors and themes, a Betsey show is always unforgettable. Johnson’s FW2013 was no exception to this, as Betsey showcased a collection of vibrant and high energy aerobics inspired looks. With models wearing cropped wigs and chatting away on cell phones, the runway was definitely a party that was celebrating the on the go lifestyle that women today can definitely relate to. The collection contained fun pieces such as a boxing glove cross body bag, puffer jackets, fuzzy shoes, and layering that was interesting and wild. The show ended with the models working out on the runway and of course, a cartwheel by Betsey.

alice-olivia-25

(Alice + Olivia, FW2013)

Alice + Olivia is just really cool. Like, really, really cool. Designing with an aesthetic that is perfect for “the girl who everyone wants to be,” Alice + Olivia created a collection that was unique, edgy, and current. Grunge glamour was a heavy inspiration as leather, plaid, and pops of bright red played a prominent part in many of the looks. Although grunge has been making a huge comeback within the past few months, unique elements such as a cross body bag in the shape of a zebra, mixed textures, polka dots and studs make the clothing interesting and relevant.

marc-by-marc-jacobs30

(Marc by Marc Jacobs, FW2013)

Marc Jacobs showed an impressive FW2013 collection that not only perfect for fall but fashion forward and chic. Although this collection is quite different from his last, Jacob’s still explored playing with vintage themes by using inspiration from late 60’s early 70’s silhouettes. However, his incorporation of modern elements such as bold beauty choices, simple styling additions, and color and texture combinations managed to keep the looks fresh and “now.” The juxtaposition of mono-chromatics, bold prints, and traditional neutrals created looks that were interesting and unexpected and demonstrated Jacob’s ability to continuously surprise his admirers and critics.
